Project Description:
My Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project consisted of making improvements to the trails in a local park, Basil Marrella. The enhancements included cutting back or removing overgrowth vegetation, laying down wood chips along the trails, and terracing the slopes of two hills that were suffering from erosion. This project benefited local Town of Greece residents as well as local high schools that hold Cross-Country meets there each year.
Total Project Hours: 250

Favorite Camping Experience:
During my third year up at Massawepie Summer Camp (July 2002), I competed in the Triathlon. At the time I was only 14 years old and was going to be competing against Scouts that were 17 and 18 years old. The odds seemed to be against me. The competitors lined up on the waterfront and BANG the Triathlon began.

The first component of the race was to swim across Massawepie Lake from Camp Pioneer's Waterfront to Camp Mountaineer's Waterfront. This half-mile swim was exhausting after just finishing a large dinner in the Mess Hall. When I reached the other side of the lake I was in good position; only a few scouts were ahead of me.

The next leg of the race was a 2 mile run back to the Sports Lodge in Camp Pioneer. This was my time to shine. One by one I passed Scout after Scout on that rocky road. I didn't even know it at the time, but soon I was in first place.

It was the leaders of Troop 130 that drove by and told me the good news. I couldn't believe it. They continued to "rally" me on and then proceeded to wait at the finish line.

Finally the last leg of the race was here. The Triathlon concluded with a long bike ride to the finish. I was all alone on that bike and didn't know when I would reach the finish, but I never let up.

Eventually I came barrelling back into camp and crossed the finish line. I did it! I won the Triathlon!

I still remember that afterwards Mr. Webb carried me on his shoulders to the soccer field so I could help the troop play in the soccer tournament.

This is just one of the endless memories I have of Scouting that I will never forget.
